I was Wrong!-Live and Learn

All disagreements are results of misunderstanding someone else’s level of consciousness. – Deepak Chopra

My father and I sometimes disagree.  Imagine that!  It happened today, in fact.  At age 87, he’s rather inactive. He’s legally blind so watching TV doesn’t appeal to him. He uses a walker and his back deters him from moving around much.  But his ears are sharp. He could hear the sump pump in the basement going on and off. And he’s been insisting over the last few days that it wasn’t working right; that it was going on and off  too frequently.

Now because I’m soon going away for a whole week and leaving my husband as my parents’ caretaker, I have a tight schedule of preparation and the sump pump was not on the list. If it was going on and off, I figured it was working alright down there in that little cement hole in the basement.  I looked in the hole yesterday. Yes, it was working.  I didn’t really pay attention to how MUCH water it was pumping from the hole. I could tell that it was emptying SOME water and that was enough for me.

My father had had me call the plumber six months ago about the exact same issue and the plumber had declared it perfectly functional.

This afternoon as I headed to the grocery store, my father was determined to do something about that pump. I, on the other hand, was determined NOT to do anything about the pump. We argued. I went so far as to tell him that he worried too much and he had “manufactured” this idea of the pump problem.  Oh I was so darn sure.

When I got back home–lo and behold– the plumber pulled into the driveway behind me. That’s cool.  I was glad that my father had enough energy and spunk to make the call himself.  So often he depends on me.  And whatever the plumber found–my father would take the professional’s word for it and his mind would be eased.  But I was pretty sure that the pump would be declared A-OK.

Only it wasn’t, not exactly.  The float that triggers the pump wasn’t working right.  The 20 year old rubber band that held it vertically in the hole was broken so it tilted in a  manner that inhibited the pump from emptying the hole fully.  Not really a good thing, especially if during a rainy spell, the water rushed in fast.

Now, my father had purchased a replacement pump years ago…cause yes….he had once had his basement flooded from a mal-functioning pump.  He is always a cautious man. So the plumber put that sucker in place and presto! The job was done.  On top of that, I took the plumber around the basement to ask him a question that had been concerning me about the water system.  And he discovered that one of the two water heaters that my parents have in their basement was not working!

Well, my father was gracious enough not to say to me “I told you so!”  He was just so darned happy to know that he did not have to worry any more about that little sump pump. And he wouldn’t have to argue with me about whether to call the plumber.

And you know.  I’m happy too.  And I will admit it. I was wrong. AND I really wasn’t giving my father enough credit for knowing what he was talking about.

My teacher, Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha has taught that to be truly compassionate in an argumentative situation, we should say: “I understand. And you’re right.”  I really missed a chance today to do just that.

Unlimited possibilities: Try it; You’ll like it

Life is a field of unlimited possibilities….. Deepak Choprah.

Went into meditation today feeling “need.”  Like there is a lack of this certain something in my life which will go un-named.  We all feel “needs” of one kind or another and have to deal with them. So I looked around in the silent forest of my soul and what should emerge but the phrase “unlimited possibilities.”  UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES!  Wow! What does that mean?  What DOESN’T it mean?  No NEED need go unanswered! No “WANT” –no “LACK”– is necessary in this universe because we live in a realm of unlimited possibilities!

For the next ten minutes, the words “unlimited possibilities” became my mantra.  I scoped it out.  Felt it out. Viewed it from all sides and imagined ALL the very BEST possibilities that could rid me of that NEED that I felt. Over and over I rolled the words in my mind. No loopholes. No if’s, and’s or buts! No exceptions to the rule.  No obstacles. Unlimited potential. Boundless possibilities! What a thought! What a mind-blowing, joy creating thought!  What an empowering relief!

Unlimited possibilities.  If only I could FEEL that every moment of the day! Unlimited possibilities! My mind child says sardonically, cynically: “Well, thats all well and good as a philosophy.  But when it comes to reality, it doesn’t apply to YOUR life!”

Now you behave, mind-child!  You KNOW as well as I do that it’s true!  You just like to act up, have control and be a smarty pants and you are cynical as all get out…mimicking the culture you grew up in!  Cause its true and you know it!  We live in a quantum universe of UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES.  No want.  You talk like that, little mind child, because “Want” is a creation of the ancient sense of deprivation that lies deep in the genetic coding from centuries of life lived at the edge of  survival, material challenges, victimhood. We are convinced that there is no way out of “need” because “NEED” has so long been the history of the human being.

When we open ourselves to the truth, we are liberated!….Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha

Break away, Oh Mind! Break away, Oh Heart!  Break away from that false paradigm of NEED.  Break away from the false illusion of  limitations. Fly free. Fly free. Fly free! OPEN to the REAL universe, the field of dreams, the field of unbounded Self, the vast play land of unlimited potential!

Try it. You’ll like it!

Into the woods in silence

“Your stillness allows all life around you to grow.  Listen…there deep inside you are subtly aware of movement…softly it comes.”…Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha

I can’t say enough about silence.  Ha Ha….isn’t that a paradox!  But truly, silence works for me.

When I was a child, my father would take me and my sisters into the woods for Sunday afternoon “camping”–we called it.  We found a nice secluded spot, built a little fire circle and  roasted hotdogs…we were trespassing but we never thought about that.  (Times have changed.)  To us, the woods around our home in central Pennsylvania belonged to everyone.

As we walked to our little campsite,  rustling through the undergrowth, playful and chattering, my father would suddenly speak, saying: “Stop! Listen!” We followed orders. The mood changed  to one of expectation. Of waiting.  Almost breathless. To see what quiet things would make themselves known to us.

So now, 50 years later, I go into the forest of my soul and stop and listen and wait….in silence. It’s the same….waiting for quiet things to make themselves known.

“Inner silence promotes clarity of mind; It make us value the inner world; It trains us to go inside To the source of peace and inspiration When we are faced with problems and challenges.”  Deepak Chopra

BABIES

“It is the nature of babies to be in bliss.”…………Deepak Chopra

Babies! OMG!  I saw one today. Five and a half month old sweetheart girl. All little blue eyes and miniature bod. OMG!  Haven’t seen one for ages!  Her mother said she was already crawling.

Honestly.  I don’t get out all that much and when I do, its to the grocery store and back. But lucky me!!! Today I took my mom to the hairdresser and got to interact face to face with a BABY!!!

I used to love the poem, Baby, by George MacDonald—-Where did you come from, baby dear? Out of the everywhere, into the here……Where did you get those eyes of blue….out of the sky when I came through!  What makes your cheek like a warm red rose? …….I saw something better than anyone knows!…….

Babies are proof that Love incarnates in the human being.  They delight in our smiles. We delight in their smiles. And for a moment or two, we are both transported to heaven…to bliss. If you do right by them, they reciprocate 1000 fold.

Babies don’t judge us. Can you imagine that?  No judgement.  No thoughts like: “Gosh that person is stupid”…or, “Gosh, I’m glad I’m not fat like that”… or “I don’t have time to talk…have to run.”

Babies change, of course, into toddlers.  Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha says that after infancy, babies go through the “mocking bird” stage.  They learn by mimicking the people around them.  Why do “the terrible two’s” arrive with toddlers saying “No” to everything you ask them to do?  Obviously, they heard “No” this and “No” that from the Moms and the Dads and the other people around them. And one thing leads to another and before Mother Goose can lay a golden egg, the child’s grown into an adult that’s loss the bliss.

Unless we become like little children….we can’t enter the kingdom of heaven.

Think about it,

Aliens are Us

“All forms of life are alien to Mother Earth. She is a blank field of pure energy we cast onto.” Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha.

I know its Valentines day but I’d rather talk about aliens. After all, aliens are US!

I’m attending the International UFO Conference in Phoenix, AZ next week. Understanding the ET phenomena is vital for the human race and I am going to check up on what the buzz is on the frontlines.

My teacher, the Venerable Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha, has relentlessly taught her students that we, as human beings, are first and foremost, energy beings. We are most definitely not, in essence, “material” beings. That’s an illusion; a game we play with ourselves and too many of us “sit in apathy” within this illusion.

During a Sun Ceremony teaching several years ago she offered this perspective on “aliens” and more:

“We are in Earth Change. It is beginning its escalation daily. It does not matter if you believe it or not, it is like reincarnation. It just is. There are battles happening on many unseen levels of Matter, Energy, Space and Time. There are many life forces that threaten our world as you so easily sit in apathy about it. All forms of life are alien to Mother Earth. She is a blank field of pure energy we cast onto.”

The human Spirit is a powerful force that “casts,” as it were, a multi-dimensional projection upon the “blank field” of energy we call Earth! I personally believe that as such, my Spirit originates in the Pleiades constellation. That would make me an “alien”–wouldn’t it?   Spirits come from across the universe to be here.  Its that simple.  Some are not interested in taking the human baby/human reincarnation route like you and I have done.  Some “visit” by other means. But indeed, Earth has always been of prime interest to beings from every quarter of the universe….and is now, more than ever.  Make no mistake about it.

After the human sojourn in deep, dense materiality, the devoted human being–which hails from many quarters of the universe–will emerge to become ethereal Spirits of Love and Personality. This change is bearing down upon us. We will grow by pushing the envelope of what we understand to be real and possible. One day, as ethereal beings, we will all walk through walls….that will be just one simple new trick of many. More significantly, we will “see” all manner of beings–unlike ourselves– that are hidden to us now.How are we going to feel about  and relate to them?  That’s a BIG important question.  So I am taking my life in hand, going out to Phoenix to explore, to understand who the many beings are that are knocking at our Earthly doors. Yes, I’m an alien. We all are. I’m preparing to meet Others.

Happy Valentines Day!

You are blessed and Loved, surrounded by potential and a

Co-Creator!

To Be an Ass or Isis

Welcome to the Home of wellnessandspirituality.net where Wellness and Spirituality and Questing for Understanding are intimately Intertwined.

I am the natural life giving force of all things, FE/Male of all the elements, the initial progeny of Worlds….” I woke up with these words this morning! It’s not so strange really, as I have repeated them often in my lifetime. They come from a longer passage that was given by my teacher, Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha, to a group of vision questers for four days of meditative contemplations.

One spring we traveled to the Outer Banks and assembled with Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha at a campground shielded to the east by dunes. Beyond them lay the great Atlantic, roaring its thunder. We pitched our tents in the breeze and gathered at Grandmother’s RV for further instructions. She said we would be staying up all night long for the five day quest, keeping a fire circle on the beach. We could leave the circle and walk down to the water and wade if we chose. We were on silence. No talking and no looking others in the eye. Keep awake. Feed the fire. And contemplate this passage:

I AM, that is the natural life giving force of all things, FE/Male of all the elements, the initial progeny of Worlds, Chief of the Divine Powers, Queen of All that are in Hell, the Principal of them that Dwell in Heaven, manifested alone and under one form of all the powers of the Principals.

At my will, the planets of the sky, the wholesome winds of the seas, and the lamentable silences of hell be disposed; my name, my Divinity is adorned throughout the Worlds in diverse manners, in variable customs and by the many names.

The nights were enchanting. The sea was a constant delight. The weather changed. The winds variable, calm or fierce. At one point a huge cloud bank rolled in from the North, appearing like a long stark wave of dark billowed gray moving like a steam roller in the sky. The temperature dropped and Yunsai, the Mother Lodge, came to the Circle with typical drama and power.

I didn’t know it at the time but the meditation comes from a book written in the second century AD called The Golden Ass by Apuleius. The speaker is the goddess, Isis…at least, she says, that is her preferred name for the moment. She rescues the main character who has been turned into an ass.

That’s quite a metaphor, eh? To be an ass is undesirable, eh? Shakespeare used the same device in A Midsummer’s Nights Dream. No one wants to be an ass. Much better to Know Thyself as the Co-Creator, the Source, the One that is in All Things, the Divine One that is adorned throughout the Worlds in diverse manners, in variable customs and by the many names.”

After sunrise, we went back to our tents and slept.  Then we sat at a picnic bench for breakfast and talked with Grandmother about  our night’s experiences. Grandmother, as usual, wowed us with her wit and wisdom. And we laughed uproariously watching our tents be flattened by the strong spring winds. No worry. We were with Grandma. We were becoming who we came to earth to be.

I kept a journal during the vision quest, of course, filled with reflections on the meaning of every phrase and the personal insights that came to me. It’s always uplifting to look it over.

I thought about the meaning of  “FE/male.”  Surely it means the speaker (the One) is an androgynous composite of the combined qualities, energies and powers of both female and male.  But I remember thinking how “FE” is the scientific symbol for Iron. So a FE-male is an “iron-male!”

After the quest, one of us asked Grandmother if she had been on the beach to visit us. She asked because she had seen a young woman that she had thought was –somehow– Grandmother. Pa’Ris’Ha replied in the affirmative and said that she had visited each of us in the form of a younger woman, but only this one person had had the eyes to see!

Ces’t la vie.

Being with Grandmother, questing for understanding, doing a walkabout, traveling with her is always “out of this world.”

With love and appreciation,

Elizabeth/Du’Tsu/Spring Frog

My Friend

Wellness and Spirituality are Intimately Intertwined with Friendship!

The most called-upon prerequisite of a friend is an accessible ear.

Maya Angelou

Friends are precious, no doubt about it. Like my friend with the hot tub! LOL.

The very fact that my friend has been ozinating her hot tub for years and years speaks volumes! Everyone should know that ozinating is the only way to go when it comes to hot tubs and swimming pools. Chlorine  is a poison. Ozone is non-toxic…and sterilizes water masterfully. Whole swimming pools are ozinated and you can drink the water from them…..But don’t just take it from me. My friend could tell you all about ozone too!

That’s what I love about this friend. In addition to ozinating, she and I are “into” so many similar things: meditation, exercise and spiritual studies, environmental causes, UFO’s, self-help and development; vegetarian and organic cooking; using stevia instead of sugar. We have so much in common and we could talk endlessly. We grew up three blocks from each other and our elderly mothers are bridge partners. When I was in eighth grade, my friend gave me Issac Assimov’s Foundation Trilogy to read. We were not always “close” like we are now but we went to the same elementary school and graduated from the same high school. Then she went her way. I went mine. I left for 28 years and came back to the old neighborhood. She only left to go to college, then came back, married and divorced, raised two kids, started an appraiser business and did quite well. And I came back three years ago to care for my parents. Now, on Friday nights on her ice cold deck, next to a roaring creek, we assess life and the universe.

My friend recently started to keep a journal, putting all her dreams and goals and other thoughts down on paper. I’ve kept a journal on and off for quite a few years but at Christmas time, I went into a slump. Listening to her enthuse about her journal inspires me to take pen and pad in hand again. (Although now that I’m blogging, it’s kinda similar.)

When I left my home in West Virginia to care for my parents three years ago, I left my best friend behind, my husband. Coming back to my home town was a bittersweet affair. Renewing my friendship with my hot tub pal has been part of the sweetness of it. I appreciate so much the hours we spend comparing notes, laughing, discussing her daughters, my sons, all the men in our lives-past, present and future….our dreams, our ambitions, our goals, our hopes and fears, the latest news and current events….You name it. We hash it over, if I’m lucky, in the hot tub once a week. It’s SPECIAL!

I’ve asked my friend to be in a rock band. She plays the piano. She said she would. But neither of us actually have time for that. But the point is…she said “yes.” So that’s a real friend, no? She’s still a dreamer, an aspirer, and enthusiastic about the adventure of life. And I love her for it!

So today, I sing praises for such a good friend and for all the other friendships of my life.

“Alone we minimize possibilities, together we are limitless.”… Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha

Envision a Golden Age

Look what’s happening in Egypt! Amazing and awesome!  The old ways are falling. Are these the birth pangs of a Golden Age? Here’s the awesome Golden Age project that I envision for a stunning piece of  land near the north rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

First let me preface by saying that this is a project of the Learning Center for Human Development (LCHD). It’s designed to serve as a platform for sharing and demonstrating the path and disciplines of “Nuwati.” The Learning Center is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded over 40 years ago by Elder and mentor, Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha.

“Nuwati” is a Cherokee word that has no real counterpart in English of which I am aware. A complete explanation of Nuwati can be quite involved. It is the Path of Medicine in the Native way of using “Medicine” which is far more expansive and all-embracing than the mainstream use of the term. This “medicine” aspect of “Nuwati” implies a peaceful, thriving and healthy world and a lifestyle that maintains the world as such. To walk in the way of Nuwati means to walk in balance and harmony upon the Earth Mother and with our fellow creatures, human and otherwise.

Nuwati is, additionally,  the “Complete Authority in Nature” and “the One that Is in All Things.” And it is the path whereby humans experience the realization that this is, indeed, what THEY are.

The path of Nuwati is the Ideal modus operandi of a human being. You could say it means mastering the Tao. You could say it entails everything on the Eightfold path…Right understanding; Right thought/right intention; Right speech; right action; right livelihood; right effort; right mindfulness; right concentration. Virtue, earthly accomplishment, Christ consciousness/enlightenment, compassion,–health, abundance, happiness would be the outcomes of walking this path fully.

All this being said…I’m sure you get the picture…the Project entails  creating a beautiful home for the Learning Center for Human Development. I like to picture a larger central adobe structure in the nature of a school with workshop rooms and a large assembly hall,  library, tech center, dining facilities, business offices. Surrounding this are smaller “outbuildings” and dwellings. The dwellings would be both permanent faculty dwellings and temporary guest dwellings. There would also be highly developed organic gardens, a state-of-the-art alternative energy system, waste water treatment facility and water conservation system. All would be designed to demonstrate the ideal of living in balance and harmony on the planet…in right relationship with all.

The facility would be designed to promote a communion with Nature….houses are small to encourage outdoor activity and the accumulation of little stuff. We would have a fire circle and  numerous courtyards.

A medicine wheel and ceremonial dance arbor would be essential and central features…so that we can celebrate the Sacred gifts of all the universe in a manner that was “given to us in the First World”, as Grandmother says, before we “fell” from paradise.

I have spent my adult lifetime dreaming of a Golden Age for humanity. We can bring an  end to war, starvation, strife, imbalance, pollution, disease, all the bad stuff in general. Who would not wish to bring this sort of dream to a reality?  Please contact me if you’d like to be a part of the creation of a facility that embodies the ideals that will transform the world and usher in the Golden Age. Sorry, but I ask that you use English.

Aho to the Peacemakers, for they shall inherit the earth,

Evolving toward Sun Beings-Ahau

Ahau

Tzolk’in Date: 13 Ahau.  Ruler is Yellow. Blocker is Purple. Gatekeeper is Golden Planet..

Meaning or common usage: Lord, ruler, sun

Associated Qualities: Creativity, union, ascension, solar mastery, Christ consciousness, language of light, crown, artistic, multi-talented, ultimate evolution

Ahau is the ultimate experience to which humanity is heir. We are each destined for the “solar mastery” that it represents. For the last 20 days here at the online home of Wellness and Spirituality, we’ve walked through the 20 day signs of the Mayan 13X 20=260 day Tzolk’in calendar beginning with Imix and now ending with Ahau.

Today the sun is shining and it’s rather easy to imagine that our destiny is associated with the Sun.  As someone who’s experienced some SAD—Seasonal Affective Disorder—the sun’s shining makes a great deal of difference in my life.  I feel very much in tune with the sun.  Some of my fondest memories are of the hot, glittering days I’ve spent swimming under the sun in lakes, pools and the ocean. And of course, I am a Sun Ceremonialist. “Joy thrills the heart as we gather for sun ceremony!”

I am so enamored of the sun, I have a website:  Check out Elizabeth Richie’s Sun Site.

How odd is it that my husband is sun-shy!  His skin is very fair and he acts—honestly—like a baby–when the sun is on it….as if five minutes of exposure will kill him. Oh!  I suppose it’s not that odd at all.  Opposites attract and we grow through having to deal with each other’s differences. The Tao is.

In any case, through the mechanics of reincarnation—repeated earth lives—each human being is evolving to a higher state of consciousness.  This may seem incredibly tedious, given how un-evolved so many of us seem to be. However, with modern physics helping us out, we may be in luck!  Our lives may not be happening chronologically in time but simultaneously! This opens up some very curious possibilities—such as actually changing or altering history.  That is, our “past” lives may be changing as humans transform themselves in their “present” NOW. In fact, there is even some debate as to whether a “past” actually ever existed.

Googling “simultaneous lives” can be lots of fun….but let me get back to the Sun.

As my Sun Site explains, the Earth will one day be absorbed back into the Sun, from whence it came. Oh…maybe that will be a million years from now…but maybe it will be in much less time.
But the Sun—I would suggest—is much more like our spiritual home and spiritual future than is the Earth.  (Not that I am anxious to leave behind this awesome planet….).  This is because at base, we are spiritual beings that have a nature or substance much more akin to light energy than to matter, or condensed energy. And it is our thoughts that determine our next moment.

As Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha has taught: Your life is exactly what and how you think. “You are as you are.”

So how are you?  What is your self-concept.  Are you creeping anywhere close to “solar mastery” and Christ consciousness?

Food for thought,

Elizabeth/Du’Tsu/Spring Frog

Aho Thunderbeings!-Cauac

Tzolk’in Date: 12 Cauac Ruler is Blue. Blocker is Blue. Gatekeeper is Pluto.

Meaning or common usage: rain storm

Associated Qualities: Purification, transformation , thunderbeing, lightning path, initiation by fire; ecstasy of freedom,

I believe that it is essential to appreciate our potential as human beings and recognize the importance of inner transformation…. The Dalai Lama

Lightning and thunder and rainstorms are the hallmark of Cauac. These remind me of an awesome experience I had with these elemental forces in the Homolovi Ruins of Arizona during a vision quest.  As I’ve said, my venerable Elder, Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha, teaches that there is intelligence everywhere in nature.  Developing an appreciation, and knowing how to “relate” to these Intelligences is a major part of inner transformation.

The Homolovi Ruins are within state park lands north of Winslow, AZ. They are in rugged, windswept terrain, with awesome mesas, cliffs and rolling hills—typical of  that part of the southwest. The Hopi consider the ruins to have been the home of their Hopi ancestors.

We spent a good deal of time amongst the ruins, imagining the ways the People may have lived. Grandmother gave us extraordinary insights and visions of these People. But at one point, she sent us off to sit  on some awesome cliffs.  We had walkie-talkies, so she sat at some distance and talked us through this adventure. I’ll not share with you all the details, as they are personal and part of the magic of a vision quest. But I can give you the following:

We were instructed, to begin with, to sit meditatively and consider some of our life challenges and goals. As we sat, a HUGE storm blew in.  Despite whatever fears we might have of such things—and contrary to what we’d all been taught by our parents–we remained on the cliffs throughout the storm, smack dab in the downpour and lightning. What power!  What Beauty!  OMG. We shouted out certain things, did certain things……and then the clouds parted. One giant gray mass of clouds split apart, one moving East, the other West….like no storm clouds ought to do!

When we finished, we gathered again in our group.  When we first saw each other, we laughed and laughed.  All the hairs on our heads were sticking straight out! We were, so to speak, “electrified.” My hair was about a foot long and lots of it just floated in the air. And when we shared our experiences with Grandmother and each other, one Brother said it all: I was the lightning!”

The inspiration to change and transform that I took home with me after that wonderful trip stays with me.  And many a time since—when I was at home in my woods in West Virginia—I’ve stood out in the lightning and thunder and danced.

Aho, Thunderbeings!
